This editorial policy outlines how Project Healthy Minds ensures the quality and accuracy of our mental health content.
Project Healthy Minds is a nonprofit dedicated to destigmatizing mental health issues and increasing access to mental health care. This is why we create content across various categories, encompassing all aspects of mental health. Our content is clinically accurate, research-based, and both empathetic and encouraging in approach. To maintain transparency and build trustworthiness, here is an overview of our editorial processes.
We publish evidence-based mental health content, including educational articles, resource guides, and wellness information. All content aims to inform and support our audience while encouraging professional care when appropriate.

When you read Project Healthy Minds content, you can expect:
Accuracy and credibility. Our content is grounded in current, evidence-based research and cites reputable sources, including the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the World Health Organization (WHO), and peer-reviewed journals. All sources are linked inline.
Empathy and sensitivity. We use language that never shames, stigmatizes, or blames. You’ll see people-first language throughout our content, such as “person living with depression” rather than “a depressed person.”
Inclusivity and representation. Our content uses inclusive language that respects all gender identities, races, abilities, and backgrounds. We recognize that mental health experiences can vary across cultures and communities.
Clarity and accessibility. Complex mental health topics are explained in plain language that’s easy to understand. When we use clinical terms, we define them clearly (for example, CBT = Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Supportive tone. Our content uses a supportive, nonjudgmental, and hopeful tone. We provide information to help you make informed decisions about your mental health, but we never encourage self-diagnosis.
Crisis resources when needed. When we discuss topics like suicide, self-harm, or other high-risk mental health topics, we always include crisis resources such as the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (988). We direct readers to professional support and never offer medical advice.
Our editorial process ensures every piece of content meets our high standards:
Planning: Our editorial team identifies topics based on what our audience is searching for, expert recommendations, and current mental health research.
Writing & Research: Our content is created by qualified writers with expertise in mental health or journalism experience in health-related topics. All content is researched using peer-reviewed sources and follows our editorial standards.
Editorial Review: Our editorial team reviews each piece of content for clarity, accuracy, tone, and adherence to our guidelines.
Clinical Review: Every piece of content is reviewed by a qualified mental health professional with expertise in the specific topic area.
Revisions: Content is refined based on feedback from both our editorial team and clinical reviewers.
Final Approval: Clinical reviewers must approve all content before it’s published.
We work with members of our Advisory Council and a team of expert clinical reviewers, comprising board-certified physicians, psychologists, and other mental health professionals. We also collaborate with licensed clinical social workers and mental health counselors who bring specialized clinical expertise to our articles.
Each piece of content is reviewed by a clinical expert in that specific area. Our clinical reviewers evaluate content for:
Clinical accuracy based on current research and guidelines
Clarity and accessibility for general audiences
Ethical and conflict of interest considerations
Our editorial team must address all feedback from clinical reviewers before publishing any content.
Writers: We collaborate with freelance writers who have backgrounds in mental health, journalism experience, or demonstrated expertise in health-related topics. All writers provide samples of previous work and complete an interview process before joining our team.
Clinical Reviewers: Our clinical reviewers are licensed mental health professionals with current practice experience. We verify credentials and licensing status through state licensing boards and professional databases.
We are committed to providing you with accurate, up-to-date, and transparent information. If we discover an error, we correct it immediately. We also believe in being open about any relationships or funding sources that might influence our content. As our content library expands, we will conduct regular reviews to ensure our content remains current with the latest research and best practices.
